What is sin?
Growing up I always heard that sin was a Greek term that meant “missing the mark”. It came from an archery term where the archers that did not make their target would call it sin.
Fair enough.
Until I learned it is not really true.
Sin is not following the Torah.
John 14:21 (NOG)
21 Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father’s love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.”
You mean like those tablets that Moses had? Who made those commandments? The Father, where was the son?
John 14:9 (NOG)
9 Yeshua replied, “I have been with all of you for a long time. Don’t you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Yeshua is His Mighty Right Hand, Literally, The right hand that created man from the dust possibly using His own spit to create us.
YHVH name says it all.
Yod…….. arm and hand
Hey…….. behold, man with arms and hands raised
Vav………..nail, hook, secure
Hey ………..behold, man with arms and hands raised
Psalm 98:1-2 (NOG) Sing a new song to Yahweh because he has done miraculous things. His right hand and his holy arm have gained victory for him. Yahweh has made his salvation known. He has uncovered his righteousness for the nations to see.
Sin-What is it? Did anyone ever give you good explanation of sin? Based upon my observations from a life lived in Texas this is a list of things that were taught or commonly believed to be sin. (No particular order)
- Don’t cuss
- Don’t do drugs
- Don’t steal
- Don’t kill
- Pay your taxes
- Don’t lie
- Don’t fight
- Don’t get mad
- Don’t have sex outside of marriage
- Don’t skip church
- Don’t be lazy
- Don’t mooch off others
- Put your hand over your heart and say the pledge
The list could go on and on…
Some of these things are scriptural, some are in the 10 commandments, some are just good principals to live by. But who made these rules? They seem to be mostly what people around her have decided that we should do. We do what seems right in our own eyes.
Proverbs 21:2Names of God Bible (NOG)
2 A person thinks everything he does is right,
but Yahweh weighs hearts.
We seem to be justified by what we decide. After all “Let your Conscience be your guide!” Said a talking Disney Character once upon a time.
Really?
How’s this working out for us?
Yahaua made the rules. His law, His Torah should guide us. Yeshua fulfilled the physical sacrifices and took the commandments deeper. He made them more about our hearts, and minds. More inward and less about our physical outward actions.
Matthew 12:35 (NOG)
35 Good people do the good things that are in them. But evil people do the evil things that are in them.
The Father looks at the heart. After walking with him for the last 29 years of my life I have discovered how much harder it is to control your thoughts. Much harder to control them than things like the food you consume. Our thoughts come at the speed of light and never turn off.
1 Samuel 16:7 (NOG)
7 But Yahweh told Samuel, “Don’t look at his appearance or how tall he is, because I have rejected him. Elohim does not see as humans see.[a]Humans look at outward appearances, but Yahweh looks into the heart.”
