50 Days

So we have Passover, then you count off 7 weeks +1 to get to 50 days.  Boom, you are at Shavuot!  Shavuot is unusual in that it’s the only biblical mandated feast that you count to find out the day to celebrate. The others have a specific place on the calendar.

After studying Shavuot/Pentecost/First Fruits some common themes emerge.

1. Mountain top moments
2. Clouds
3. Fire
4. Voice of Yahuah
5. Prophecy
6. Covenant
7. Spirit is sent to mankind
8. Multilingual events

We read Numbers 11 last week and it makes sense to me this would have been about 50 days after passover and you have some amazing similarities to Acts 2.

70 represents 70 nations, the Mixed Multitude. This means they spoke multiple languages.  The Spirit descends and they prophesied.  Wait, wait, wait, you mean they had the Spirit back then?

Yes

I thought that was only a “new covenant” thing?

Nope

The spirit has been there all along, this isn’t a new concept.  By the way Grace was there the whole time as well.  Go back and read the text. Grace starts at the Garden, Bable, The Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, The golden Calf…–GRACE, GRACE, GRACE, GRACE, GRACE…  Anyway I am getting off track.  Look at the text below for example of men being filled with the Spirit to do the work of the father.

Numbers 11:24-29 Names of God Bible (NOG)

²⁴ Moses went out and told the people what Yahweh said. He gathered 70 of the leaders of the people and had them stand around the tent. ²⁵ Then Yahweh came down in the column of smoke and spoke with him. He took some of the Ruach that was on Moses and put it on the 70 leaders. When the Ruach came to rest on them, they prophesied, but they never prophesied again.²⁶ Two men, named Eldad and Medad, had stayed in the camp. They were on the list with the other leaders but hadn’t gone with them to the tent. The Ruach came to rest on them, too, and they prophesied in the camp.²⁷ Then a young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” ²⁸ So Joshua, son of Nun, who had been Moses’ assistant ever since he was a young man, spoke up and said, “Stop them, sir!”²⁹ But Moses asked him, “Do you think you need to stand up for me? I wish all Yahweh’s people were prophets and that Yahweh would put his Ruach on them.”

The Believers Are Filled with the Holy Spirit

2 When Pentecost, the fiftieth day after Passover, came, all the believers were together in one place. ² Suddenly, a sound like a violently blowing wind came from the sky and filled the whole house where they were staying. ³ Tongues that looked like fire appeared to them. The tongues arranged themselves so that one came to rest on each believer. ⁴ All the believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.⁵ Devout Jewish men from every nation were living in Jerusalem. ⁶ They gathered when they heard the wind. Each person was startled to recognize his own dialect when the disciples spoke.⁷ Stunned and amazed, the people in the crowd said, “All of these men who are speaking are Galileans. ⁸ Why do we hear them speaking in our native dialects? ⁹ We’re Parthians, Medes, and Elamites. We’re people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the country near Cyrene in Libya. We’re Jewish people, converts to Judaism, and visitors from Rome, ¹¹ Crete, and Arabia. We hear these men in our own languages as they tell about the miracles that God has done.”¹² All of these devout men were stunned and puzzled. They asked each other, “What can this mean?” ¹³ Others said jokingly, “They’re drunk on sweet wine.”

Do you see the connections of multiple nations, a mixed multitude, all the nations being represented?

2:19–21  ¹⁹He said to us: “I will now separate for myself] 10        a people among my nations. And [they will keep Sabbath. I will sanctify them as my people, and I will bless them. They will be my people and I will be their God.”]11        ²⁰And he chose the descendants of Jacob among [all of those whom I have seen. I have recorded them as my first-born son and have sanctified them for myself] 12        for all the age(s) of eternity. The [seventh] day [I will tell them so that they may keep Sabbath on it from everything, ²¹as he blessed them and sanctified them for himself as a special people] 13        out of all the nations and to be [keeping Sabbath] together [with us.

Jubilees dates additional events to the 15^th of the 3^rd month:

1.  14:10 – covenant between the pieces (ברית בין הבתרים) b.  16:13 – birth of Isaac (fulfillment of promise in chapter 15) c.   29:7 – covenant with Laban
