Relationships

Putting in the work.

As my last post stated I am learning a new job, and a new industry.  Recently I had a client threaten me with the loss of business.  My gut reaction was to try and help them out so they wouldn’t leave us. My boss coached me up through the conflict. He was real quick to tell me “This is not a good relationship! Good Relationships don’t threaten you.  We will not be bullied by others.”

His words made so much sense to me.  I have not put up with this behavior in my children or other relationships that I have, so why would I put up with it in a business relationship.  Agreed.  Once I was able to think about it like that it was much easier to deal with the client.

Too many people give in to the bully, the person that stamps their foot and demands their way.  When you cave in to this you create a monster that has a raging appetite that can not be filled.

Life is too short to be “owned” by others with bad behavior.  Don’t be afraid to walk away from business if they don’t play far.
