After examining Yeshua Pilate presents the crowd with two men with the same name. The Romans loved a good play on words. This was just a fun game to them. It was a way to pass the time for the Royals of the day to watch the drama unfold.

At Day of Atonement

⁸Then Aaron must throw lots for the two goats. One lot will be for Yahweh and the other for Azazel.^[a] ⁹Aaron must sacrifice the goat chosen by lot for Yahweh as an offering for sin. ¹⁰But he must bring the goat chosen by lot for Azazel into Yahweh’s presence. He will release it in the desert to Azazel in order to make peace with the Lord for himself and his family.

It is understood that they would tie a scarlet thread to the goat that was released into the wild. They tied a scarlet sash on Yeshua. Yeshua becomes the sin sacrifice and Barabbas represents how the sin is removed and forgotten.

Barabbas represents the scapegoat and Yeshua represents the sin sacrifice.

Just like you and I Barabbas was sinful and deserved the punishment. The innocent lamb of Yeshua was spotless and took on the curse of death so that you and I (Barabbas) could run free.

Do you think Barabbas ever got it?
