Now you get why Moses breaks the tablets. This would make you loose it a bit when you have been on the mountain up close to the Father for 40 days. Hanging out with God and getting the download and you come back home to find the kids threw a giant orgy, kegger at the foot of the holy mountain! Yeah you’d snap too.

Backstory

So here we go once again God changes His plan to work with what we are willing to give him.  Over and over, his plan has been we are to be HIS ROYAL PREISTHOOD to the other nations. Over and over from Adam – now we reject this iea and have this following mindset.

¹⁸ When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance ¹⁹ and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speakto us or we will die.”

²⁰ Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”

²¹ The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.

“It’s too hard, you go hear from God, and tell us what He says!”

Hence modern day church, priest, pastors, teachers…  This in not the Biblical model.  We have convinced ourselves that is it but it is not. Anyway, my point is the Golden Calf Orgy.

So what were they doing? Go back and read the text, what does it say?

⁵ When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of it and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival in Yahweh’s honor.”

It says “God, I love you so much, I Just want you to take this as my offering to you.  Take this _______ as my sacrifice to you.  I want you to have this, I want to do this for you.”  This kinda sounds like “Dear Baby Jesus”

Isn’t this what man has done with everything the Father has given us?  We decide what it means.  It’s about what  I make it to mean, what I do. Notice a theme of ME? Thankfully it’s not up to us. Yet many seem to think it is.

I challenge you to look at this story with fresh eyes and examine your walk and see how much of what you have been taught and what you practice is in the same vein as the Golden Calf Story.

To name a few, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, the Sabbath.  See what the TEXT says, and see how it lines up with what we walk out.  Then think, “do we own our own, do what is right, or what is easy?”

We tend to do what is easy and what we want not what God wants.  How many times do we hear, “follow your heart!”

    I will reward each person for what he has done.
    I will reward him for the results of his actions.

    that hatches eggs it did not lay.
        During his lifetime, he will lose his wealth.
            In the end, he will be a godless fool.”
